Our primary goal, established by the Board of Directors June 12, 2000, at Hiawatha, Kansas, is to see a four-lane expressway on U.S. 36 included in the next Kansas Highway Plan from St. Joseph to Belleville, as a first step in extending the freeway/expressway into Kansas. We believe this would be the single most effective economic development step the State of Kansas could take in these counties.

The Association intends to unite all county commissioners, city councils, economic development agencies, chambers of commerce, transportation officials, state and federal legislators and others along the highway toward the achievement of this goal.
